The exhibition GNADE at the GALERIE DER KÜNSTLER*INNEN brings together seven newly produced spatial installations by young artists that deal with individuality, power, the forces of nature, market dependency and spirituality, among other things. The selected works trace our current social mood – between humanitarian, political and economic crises, armed conflicts and natural disasters – and design their own (counter)strategies and possible responses.

The term ‘grace’, borrowed from theology, already suggests an ambiguity. In German translations of the Old Testament, ‘grace’ replaces the Hebrew words חֵן (ḥen) and חֶסֶד (ḥesed), which can denote favour, affection, kindness, grace, beauty, but also goodness, love, benevolence and mercy. The use and interpretation of the term therefore requires a close examination of the specific circumstances and relationships in which it is used. The exhibition title GNADE utilises the ambivalence of this loaded word and invites artists and viewers alike to reflect on the concept of ‘grace’ in the reality of their own lives.
